Adult Autism Assessments
With a Clinical Psychologist
I offer thorough, comprehensive autism assessments for adults without intellectual disability who think they might be autistic.
All assessments are conducted in line with NICE guidelines and DSM-5 criteria. I use the Adult Autism Assessment (AAA), alongside relevant screening questionnaires. The AAA is one of the diagnostic tools used within NHS Specialist Adult Autism Services.
My experience includes working within an NHS specialist adult autism service, where I conducted autism assessments under the supervision of a Senior Clinical Psychologist. I also co-delivered post-diagnostic support, helping individuals who had recently received an autism diagnosis to make sense of it and understand their individual needs.
I bring this experience into my current work, alongside my broader background as a Clinical Psychologist.
In my work, I often meet people who have spent years feeling different, overwhelmed, or unsure why things feel harder than they seem for others. Seeking an assessment is often about trying to make sense of that, and I aim to offer a space where this can be explored carefully and respectfully.
Who This is For
You might be considering an assessment if you are an adult without an intellectual disability and:
Have been wondering for some time whether you might be autistic
Notice patterns such as masking, social exhaustion, or sensory sensitivities
Feel your experiences have been misunderstood or missed in the past
Would like clarity for yourself, or for work, study, or support needs
What the Assessment Involves
The process is thorough but paced appropriately, and we would go through it step by step.
Informant Involvement
To ensure the assessment is clinically robust, input from an informant is needed to contribute to both the developmental history and the diagnostic interview. This is ideally someone who knew you since childhood (for example, a parent or sibling).
They would be asked to complete a questionnaire and a short developmental history form that will be sent prior to the assessment. Additionally, they will also be verbally interviewed to gather necessary information. Their input can be included either during the assessment itself or through a separate appointment, depending on your preferences.
What is Included in the Assessment Package
Before the assessment
Completion of three questionnaires (two completed by you, one by your informant).
Completion of a short developmental history form by the informant.
Submission of any relevant reports prior to the assessment (e.g., GP letters, school reports, previous psychological assessments), which will be reviewed as part of the assessment process.
At the assessment
A 3–4 hour online appointment to gather full developmental history and complete the diagnostic clinical interview.
This can be completed together with your informant where appropriate.
After the assessment
Discussion of your anonymised case with a Consultant Clinical Psychologist to support diagnostic decision-making.
Communicating the outcome
A comprehensive report and diagnostic letter, in line with NICE guidelines and NHS autism assessment standards.
This will be sent within 4–6 weeks.
Post-diagnostic feedback session
A 1-hour follow-up session to talk through the outcome and recommendations together.
Fees
I strive to offer a high-quality, affordable service. The full assessment package is offered at a fixed fee of £1,400, which is very competitive for a comprehensive adult autism assessment.
If helpful, we can also discuss splitting the payment.
Approach
I work in a collaborative and non-judgemental way. My background includes working with complex clinical presentations, and I aim to hold in mind the broader context of someone’s experiences, not just a checklist of symptoms.
My aim is for the process to feel containing, respectful, and at a pace that feels manageable.
Next steps
If you’re thinking about an assessment but aren’t sure yet, you’re very welcome to get in touch. I’m happy to answer questions or help you think through whether this feels like the right step for you.
Not Sure if You Might be Autistic?
You are welcome to get in touch, and I can send you a free short online screening questionnaire. This takes around five minutes to complete and can help indicate whether autism traits may be relevant.
You can email the completed questionnaire back to me, and I will score it and share the outcome with you.
If helpful, we can also arrange a free 20-minute consultation, where we can briefly discuss your experiences, the assessment process, and any questions you may have. This is a no-obligation conversation.
